The Avengers #3- More of an action issue but an overall step up from the past couple issues. I really would like to see the actual Apocalypse pop up as a new Avengers villain instead of the usual Kang/Fill-in-the-blank/Ultron/Fill-in-the-blank/Kang cycle it feels we tend to get stuck in. One of the traps I always feel the Avengers suffer from is that they haven’t really dealt with many actual ‘big’ threats in their own title in a while. B+
Brightest Day #6-While I’m still enjoying the overall story, I’ve heard enough complaints from customers that this is starting to get dull that I was wondering if DC would have been better off just launching a few new titles like a Martian Manhunter and Aquaman series with a couple minis for Firestorm, Deadman, and the other supporting members. I think this is probably a better financial decision though and just requires patience. My only question is that I could have sworn that Martian Manhunter/Fernus killed all the white Martians that were held prisoner in the Still Zone. Whoops? B
New Avengers #2- Immonen makes the title for me but the script for this issue was actually a lot of fun. This title has a lot of potential if the plots don’t drag for too long, because there were huge chunks of the previous new Avengers runs that felt like they could have been cut by half and still get the point across. B+
Time Masters Vanishing Point #1- If you’ve been enjoying the Booster Gold series and generally think Dan Jurgens can tell a fun story, then this is pretty much just an extension of that. If you enjoy Grant Morrison Batman and think you might have to pick this up because it might be relevant, then you can probably save the $3.99. I might be jumping the gun here and future issue might be a little important, but I kinda doubt it. Otherwise, it’s a fun bit of superhero time-traveling, not much else. B
Red Tornado Family Reunion TPB- This one has been sitting on my stack to read and I finally fit it in since this week didn’t have that many single issue comics I was too interested in checking out. While there really isn’t anything incredibly standout about this series, it as just a fun little quick story about Red Tornado that expanded his mythology a little. And not in a crappy we really didn’t need that stuff added way but in a kinda neat but we can ignore it because it doesn’t horrible alter history sort of way. Like I said, it doesn’t really jump out as a fantastic story, but it’s not bad with decent scripting and solid enough art. This is pretty much a superhero filler story for a background character, and if you’re a Red Tornado fan then this is a good addition but if you’re not a fan then this is not in any way really important. The trade is priced the same as if you bought the single issues, so no big savings there. B
