Wonder Woman #600-I would probably rate this just slightly under the Batman #700 but definitely above the Superman #700. The Simone/Perez story was fun and a nice set up for how WW is viewed by her female peers. The Amanda Conner story was cute with fantastic art, you just have to ignore any sense of continuity. The Louise Simonson story was sadly a throwaway and really didn’t fit in this volume at all. It wasn’t bad by any means, it was just kind of a generic team-up with Superman. The Johns/Kolins piece was cryptic and kind of a set up, but sort of jaunty and basically just let you know that the Straczynski run may or may not be an alternate reality. It was interesting to read because it echoed a lot of people’s thoughts on the last page, commenting that the world undervalues her and this needs to change (screw you Megan Fox). The Straczynski chunk was just too short to get a real handle, but really I think people are making too big a deal about the costume change. This is essentially a short story (probably in an alternate reality) and the costume change is just to serve the story (and get a media byte). We all know it’s temporary, I just wish they could have done better than a 90's design reject. The issue is sprinkled with a healthy amount of great pin-ups, so overall it’s a nice package. B
Abe Sapien The Abyssal Plain #1- I reaaaaally love Peter Snejbjerg, and the man can draw a pretty disturbing waterlogged zombie. Great Johnson cover as well, and interesting story makes this another great Mignola/Arcudi package. A-
Green Lantern #55- I think my only complaint about the Green Lantern title is that it can be sort of a quick read at times, but the oh so pretty art does help make up for it. The Lobo stuff was interesting, and the origin of Dex-Star was sadly cute. Or cutely sad? A
Thunderbolts #145- Wasn’t able to read this last week since we sold out so fast, so there’s a good sign. I’m really liking Walker’s style for this series, it fit’s perfectly and is a nice change of pace from all the moody styles before it. I’m loving the use of Man-Thing (that’s what she said) in the series so far as well, and the fact that they aren’t even going to bother to try to redeem Crossbones. B+
