Sea Bear & Grizzly Shark #1- Pretty fun with some great art, but this is an incredibly quick read for $4.99, although it is 48 pages without ads. This isn’t a book you’ll necessarily reread again and again though and it’s kind of a throwaway, so while it’s good for a quick laugh that’s about it. B-
Avengers #2- The team brings in Grant Morrison’s Marvel Boy for this crossdimensional time travel story and toss in a random fight with Wonder Man cause it would be boring otherwise. Except it still ended up being boring. Seriously, lot of talking heads and trying to build up why this is all a threat without actually feeling like a threat. And is anyone else tired of 1-shot characters (Marvel Boy, Sentry, The Hood) being dusted off non-stop by Bendis when their single self contained original series were just fine on their own? The only interesting thing for me in this issue was the villain who appears at the end, and although it’s an alternate version I always thought he would make a more interesting Avengers villain than an X-Men villain. B-
Joe The Barbarian #2- This series vaguely reminds me of an old Canadian show about a kid trapped in a coma who experiences a fantasy world that reflects his real world. I wish I could remember what that show was....Toss that old nostalgia with the beautiful art of Sean Murphy and an army that consist of Batman, Lobo, Captain Picard, Snake-Eyes, and more and this series still kicks ass. Can't wait for the trade to push on people. A-
Green Lantern Corp #49- While I’m still enjoying this, I hope there’s a little more of a twist to the current plot cause you could see the reveal in this issue a mile away. Bedard still has a decent grasp on space dramas though, so still a fun title. B+
Battlefields #7- The series returns to Lieutenant Anna Borishnova Kharkova from the very first story the Night Witches, and while I still enjoyed this issue I do feel the series is losing a little steam. It might be that the air combat stories in particular kind of feel repetitive to me despite the amount of strong characterization Ennis gives them. Still, as a single sit down the trade should read strong. B
