Superman #700- The first story by Straczynski was alright, just sort of a quickie to catch up on Lois and Clark’s relationship post War of the Supermen. The middle story by Jurgens was cute, but a random thing to be included in this issue. The final story, well let’s say if it’s an indication of the type of stories we will be forced to read by Straczynski then I’m going to be less than pleased with the direction of this title. Seriously, we’ve had enough of ‘needing to ground the heroes with the people they save’. And that whole scene with the woman complaining that Superman wasn’t there to save her husband WHILE HE WAS BUSY SAVING THE WORLD is more than old hand and lazy plotting, it’s obnoxious and annoying. I can see why the Plutionan over on Irredeemable went insane. B-
Namora One-Shot- A fun little aside to the Atlas books by Parker catching up readers to Namora’s background. Not much else than that though, and despite the nice art and fun scripting Marvel’s $3.99 price tag for everything is murder. 22 pages for a fairly obscure character to the average reader is not the way increase sales and exposure. B
Green Arrow #1- Y’know, this wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but it really didn’t feel original or necessary. Dropping Oliver Queen back into more of a Robin Hood role and introducing a villain I don’t think we will remember a couple years down the road is just sorta meh. Art was fine but not enough to really draw new readers in either. And really, how many times ha Star City been destroyed in just a couple years. Three at least, right? Just because you have a fiction city DC that doesn’t mean you have to keep blowing it up. It quickly lost any sense of importance and I’m kinda numb to it being a ‘catastrophic’ event. B-
7 Psychopaths #2- This new title hasn’t lost any steam as the story becomes more interesting and the art remains awesome. I’m fairly bummed it’s only a three issue deal. A-
Batman Return of Bruce Wayne #3- Pirate Batman! Ok, so Morrison’s still building a pretty fun time travel story here while also mixing up old Batman history with old DC lore like the Black Pirate and tossing in Blackbeard for fun as well. Top it off with beautiful art from Yanick Paquette and this series is holding steady with awesomeness. A
