Atlas #2- Parker knows how to deliver a fun comic and considering I never really gave a crap about Triathlon (now 3-D man) I actually really like what’s being done with the character here. Hardman’s art is a great fit for the series, and the back-up stories have been great so far. Well worth jumping on and trying out. A-
DC Universe Legacies #2- Same deal as last issue, I’m not really sure we need to spend $3.99 for basically DC’s version of Busiek’s Marvels. The Kubert art is great, and the Seven Soldiers by JH Williams in the back is fun. Maybe this will read better as a trade, but overall just feels unnecessary. B-
Joker’s Asylum II: Harley Quinn One-Shot- Not really interested in these one shots since they are mostly filler, but the Joe Quinones art was of interest so checked it out. Story was fun enough, just Harley escaping Arkham so she can spend Valentine’s Day with Joker. Quinones’ art though is fantastic, and the $2.99 price tag is decent for the story. B+
Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom GN- Cute story about little Howard Lovecraft being magically teleported to R’yleh, where he meets a cthuloid creature, saves it’s life, names it Spot and goes on an adventure. Good humor and a fun approach to the usual Lovecraft mythos with unique art. $12.95 is a little high, but overall worth it. B
Tom Strong and the Robots of Doom #1- Love seeing Chris Sprouse on the title again, and I’ve enjoyed Hogan’s scripting before. This was a lot of fun but really incredibly fast for me, so it will no doubt be better as a trade package. $3.99 was a little much, it didn’t really need the fancy cover paper stock. Still, if you enjoyed the original Tom Strong you should check it out. B+
Darkwing Duck #1- First of all, I loved the show when I was a kid so I was really hoping this would be great for kids and a fun nostalgia trip as well. It’s an awesome read for pretty much all ages and captures what made the original show awesome. Great sense of humor, clean crisp art, and the promise of a good storyline. Wish it was a little longer for $3.99, but seriously worth every penny. A++
