If you’ve been enjoying the current Power Girl series by Palmiotti, Gray, and Conner then you should give this read, and if you haven’t been reading Power Girl then you should check this out if you just want a solid fun super-hero comic with great art. Starting with the introduction of Terra in Supergirl #12, this volume follows her starting adventures as she teams with Supergirl, Powergirl, and Geo-Force to battle a number of different threats from a telepathic dinosaur, zombies, lava men, ancient gods, and more.
Palmiotti have an interesting style of scripting that fairly fast paced and very single issue orientated. There are a number of sub-plots that branch out into later issues as villains are created and Terra’s background is explored, but overall the plotting keeps the action mostly self contained to the threat-of-the-issue which gives the book a great monthly super-hero comic feel. It doesn’t try to make itself any more than it is and it embraces the goal of just having fun and being an accessible quick action/adventure read.
I’ve had customers complain that they think Conner’s art is too cartoony, but honestly that’s what I love about it. She tells a solid story with great action, interesting designs, and fluid pacing. Conner is also great with emoting, and can showcase some great character interaction in very few panels to get the characters and dialogue across.
At $14.99 you’re paying the same amount the single issues cost, so while you’re not getting an extra deal you aren’t being gypped either. It’s a fun package and if you just want a well told super-hero action comic with a strong lead female character then this would be a great title to check out.
