Why You Should Know It: Working Week stars Marlus Randone, a normal teen who happens to get stuck in the Justice League headquarters after his entire town is teleported there during a major crisis. The wannabe reporter takes the opportunity to spy on the team for the better part of a week, seeing how they interact as normal people and not-so-normal people.
Written by comedian Patton Oswalt, I would recommend this to any fan of his work right off the bat simply because he’s at his best here. Oswalt is an obvious fan of comics and DC super-heroes, and he writes them with an appreciation and sense of purpose. General JLA fans should love this as well, especially readers who liked Grant Morrison’s run on the regular series.
Personal Review: It’s always interesting to read something from someone you don’t associate with the medium and to see if they can deliver. After reading this I really would love to see Oswalt on a regular title. The characterization, pacing, and dialogue are all sharp and enjoyable. Oswalt’s style also works well with Gleason’s art, and I’m a fan of everything Gleason touches so this was an overall great package for me.
