Writer/Artist: Gilbert Hernandez
Publisher: Dark Horse, $9.95
Why You Should Know It: Girl Crazy follows three young heroines who can travel through time as they reunite to save the mysterious Una just before they all turn 16. Along the way they deal with robots, monsters, the IRS, assassins, and more.
Generally this is an easy push for any fan of the Hernandez Bros, although I do find that many readers tend to prefer Jaime over Gilbert. If that’s the case then readers who prefer Gilbert’s Palomar should enjoy this even though it’s much more over the top in style. This is a black & white comic, so readers unfamiliar with the Hernandez Bros art style may have to get over that
Personal Review: While I enjoy Love & Rockets as a whole, I do actually prefer Gilbert at times. The giant Palomar book is a hefty read and enjoyable. Girl Crazy is just big strange action sci-fi fun with a quirky sense of humor.
The scripting is fun and the designs and layouts superb. It’s a fairly short book but it doesn’t feel like you got shafted and the price is just right. All in all, a great package.

If you like this then read: Love & Rockets, Palomar, Luba, Sloth, Chance In Hell
