Writer/Artist: Richard Moore
Publisher: Antarctic Press, $14.95
Why You Should Know It: Fire and Brimstone are an angel and demon bounty hunting duo, forever tasked to clean up their previous mess of accidentally releasing thousands and thousands of demons on Earth. The series follows them on a number of cases as Brimstone has a crisis of faith and Fire has to pick up the slack.
Fans of Moore’s previous works such as Far West and Boneyard won’t be disappointed as this is a familiar mix of the supernatural, slapstick humor, and a little gratuitous T & A. This is a pretty good introduction to Moore’s writing and art style for new readers for pretty much the same reason. The gratuitous T & A is mostly used just for comedic affect, so it’s kind of a 50/50 toss up on who you might feel you can confidently recommend this to. You just have to get a read on them and see if the humor and scripting can overshadow other elements.
Personal Review: I’ve always enjoyed Moore’s sense of humor, and this delivers with a fun concept and characterization as well. Moore has a unique art style that I’ve found usually reels in a lot of readers, and is also another element of his work I’ve always enjoyed simply because it compliments his scripting so much. The comedic timing is just right and his designs and general pacing are great.
