With the return of and the sudden interest of John Rozum's Xombi, I would love it if DC/Vertigo actually went into their archives and reprinted this series. Midnight saw print as two separate series, the first an eight part run that saw the introduction of the Kadmons. The Kadmons are occult specialists and monster hunters, as well as popular celebrities renowned around the world. The first series focuses on their hiring of a new assistant, Jenny, to help them organize and modernize their efforts.

I always enjoy Rozum’s scripting and he has a great sense of pacing and laying the groundwork for an interesting world with interesting characters. Jesus Saiz had art chores for the first series and it’s the perfect fit.

The second six part series focused on a particular monster, Magelllan, starting a movement to invade a small human town so that monsters could kill and occupy homes and enjoy modern comforts. Art chores for this series fell on Paul Lee, and while the personality of the series slightly changes due to this flip Lee brings a new tone and atmosphere designing some interesting monsters.

On top of the great creative teams, MM also featured some great covers by Tomer Hanuka. I kept my single issues because I figured DC would never reprint them, but the beautiful covers sure helped me make that decision. Think James Jean with a creepier flair and a bit bloodier.

The only thing that sucks is that Rozum obviously set up some sub-plots that were meant to be explored. It would be fantastic to see him return to the series, so maybe if we get lucky and Xombi keeps selling well DC will green light a collection and new series. Until then, you shouldn’t have to pay much more than $3 an issue, but bets are you can find them in quarter bins. Well worth hunting down, top notch series and if you enjoy supernatural action with a good sense of humor this is a must have.
