If you read Jack Staff, then you’ve seen the Cosmic Warrior appear briefly. Essentially he’s a dues ex machina last minute save plot device who doesn’t really speak that much. This is an introductory one-shot that introduces a little bit of extra detail to the character and sets up an up-coming mini-series scheduled for 2010. As an introduction it’s fairly sparse but it does set up some good ground and plotting for the future.

The main push for anything by Paul Grist is his unique storytelling. His art is clean, simple, and very expressive. Normally I would complain about the use of numerous splash pages in something priced like this, but for Grist I’ll shut up. The great thing about his use of space is that it’s very bold and compliments the nature of the story and character. It’s a fairly short but enjoyable read, and I'm looking forward to the expansion coming up next year.

While you can read this just fine without going back to Jack Staff, I'll never skip an opportunity to recoomend Jack Staff to anyone. If you don’t want to bother then I would recommend this more to people who can jump into a series running and don’t need a crapload of introduction or background. The basic thing about this character is that he pretty much just shows up and kicks ass whenever and wherever he’s needed for the sake of the universe. As long as you can just take that and go with the flow you’re good.
