Why You Should Know It: Taking place towards the end of WWII, an American operative has to lead a team of six other handpicked commandos into the Eastern frontier of Germany. The team has to move fast as well, because the Soviet army is marching towards their position and the Americans want to make the secrets they find don't end up in Soviet hands.

If you want a good shoot 'em up action blowout, this is an easy sell. Dixon's always been great at pacing an explosive action story, and he gives you just enough plot and character to make you interested in what happens to the people but never dwells too much in any drama. It's a blockbuster Michael Bay war movie, just better written. Dixon also has a decent following from all of his past Batman family work, and I notice Mahnke is growing a larger following over the past few years.
Personal Review:
One of the things I do like about Dixon scripts is that he never dresses them up to be anything besides what they are. This is a straight up war comic with lots of violence, and he delivers. The dialogue is quick and sharp, and it compliments the art.

Mahnke always has that dirty detail I just love. His lines seem sharper here, almost in a Jim Lee style. This could very well just be the inking though. I think it reflects a general Wildstorm style, and I don't really mind that for this work. If anything it lends a bit of continuity to the series and plops it more down into the Wildstorm history. Longtime Wildstorm fans will note the codenames of American Commandos as well and probably enjoy the added history this book provides.
